Store collecting handbags for Dress for Success

Shoppers can donate used or new handbags through July 26 at all Brighton Collectibles locations valleywide to benefit Dress for Success Southern Nevada.

The fifth annual drive was scheduled to kick off July 17 at Brighton Collectibles at The District at Green Valley Ranch, 2235 Village Walk Drive. Those who donate will are to receive $25 off handbags costing between $100 and $150 and/or $50 off handbags priced at $150 or more.

The business hopes to collect 750 handbags, topping last year‘s total of 500. The bags are set to be refurbished before being donated to Dress for Success.

The nonprofit Dress for Success provides professional clothing and accessories, including handbags, to disadvantaged women seeking to gain employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency.

Military recognition banner program offers applications through Oct. 1

The city of Henderson is offering applications for its Military Recognition Banner Program through Oct. 1.

The street banners are set to display the names, ranks and photographs of active military members starting around Nov. 11. They will be displayed for one year.

Honorees must be a Henderson resident or an immediate family member of a Henderson resident and an active-duty member in good standing. Residents, businesses and organizations may nominate an honoree and sponsor a banner for $150.

All service members are set to be honored at a ceremony hosted by the city of Henderson once the display period is complete.

St. Rose Dominican set to preview new tower

St. Rose Dominican Hospitals are set to preview their new Siena Tower from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Siena campus, 3001 St. Rose Parkway. The event is set to include a farmers market, food trucks, activities, free health screenings, tours and raffles. Visit strosehospitals.org.

Valley Health System breaks ground on Henderson Hospital

The Valley Health System broke ground July 9 on a 142-bed hospital slated for construction at U.S. Highway 95 and Galleria Drive.

The $168 million facility, scheduled to open in fall 2016, is set to offer emergency care, surgical services, women‘€™s and children‘€™s services, cardiology and ancillary services.

The site is set to employ 700 people, with hiring planned through spring and summer 2016. The hospital is the Valley Health System‘€™s sixth in the Las Vegas Valley.
