WALKER FURNITURE LAUNCHES HELP FOR HEROES PROGRAM

Walker Furniture announced a Help for Heroes program designed to provide 10 military individuals and families with necessary items that may include lift chairs, adjustable beds, new mattresses and dining sets, among other possibilities. Recipients will be selected from letters written on behalf of prospective recipients and submitted through June 27.

According to company CEO, Larry Alterwitz, Walker Furniture created the program to help make day-to-day living a little easier for a segment of the community that is often overlooked. He said each delivery will be specific to the needs of each recipient.

“We must remember what these men and women have done for us”, Alterwitz said in a press release. “The VA helps them, but is limited in what they can do beyond their medical needs.”

Letters will be reviewed by an independent panel headed by Cmdr. John Rupe of the American Legion Paradise Post No. 149. Rupe plans to visit each prospective recipient to evaluate their needs.

Letters can be sent to: Larry Alterwitz, CEO Walker Furniture, 301 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Las Vegas, NV, 89106. Letters can also be faxed to 702-384-7772, hand delivered to Walker Furniture or e-mailed to cnelson@walkerfurniture.com. Letters can also be submitted online at walkerhelpforheroes.com.

Alterwitz said others have joined the effort to offer assistance including the Las Vegas Rescue Mission and Famous Dave’s, which plans food drives at all valley locations.

Walker Furniture is also asking the community to drop off nonperishable food items and toiletries for the American Legion Paradise Post No. 149 food pantry to the company’s main showroom at 301 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. or the warehouse outlet at 4150 E. Cheyenne Ave.
