BLM TO HOST PUBLIC MEETING ON ROAD IMPROVEMENTS AUG. 12

The Bureau of Land Management’s Red Rock/Sloan Field Office plans a public meeting at 2 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area’s Visitor Center, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive, on proposed road improvements on state Route160 west from state Route 159 to Mountain Springs.

The Nevada Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, is completing an environmental assessment for the proposed project, and the BLM and U.S. Forest service are cooperating agencies.

The preferred alternative includes widening state Route 160 to four lanes, an 8-foot shoulder (bicycle-compliant) and a 14-foot median (raised islands with left-turn pockets into the Mountain Springs area) for its 11-mile length, along with other enhancements. The project is proposed in two phases. The estimated cost is $60 million to $70 million.

To attend, alert the fee booth at the entrance that you are participating in the open house, and fees will be waived.

RAINBOW COMPANY YOUTH THEATRE PLANS ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS

The Rainbow Company Youth Theatre plans student ensemble auditions for ages 10 to 17 at 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

The student ensemble program offers professional-level training for students interested in learning all aspects of theater.

Meetings and classes are mandatory, and students are required to work on all productions, either backstage or onstage.

Fall registration is slated to end Sept. 3 for classes planned for Sept. 10 to Oct. 18.

New fall classes include embroidery technique and traditions and dance choreography workshops for ages 12 or older.
