1. JCC BBQ Cook-off & Festival: The Jewish Community Center of Southern plans to host its fourth annual event from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Temple Beth Sholom campus, 10700 Havenwood Lane. Food, drinks, activities, games and entertainment are planned. The cook-off will feature celebrated Las Vegas chef judges such as chef Ernesto Esuenaga from Pot Liquor, chef Carlos Guia from Wynn Country Club and chef James Richards, the new chef de cuisine from Emeril Lagasse’s Table 10 at The Venetian. The barbecue gives backyard grill masters a chance to show off their culinary expertise. Twenty teams will compete for the best brisket, ribs and booth decorations. Activities include public tastings of the cook-off teams’ brisket, ribs and beans, chair massages, amusement rides, Rock The Tea, Blow Dart accuracy challenge and candle making. 2. Hot Air Balloon Festival: The event is set from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 23-25, on the campus of Southern Hills Hospital, 9300 W. Sunset Road. Hot air balloon morning launches and passenger rides, tethered balloon rides, kids’ activities, evening glow shows, amusement rides and carnival games are planned, along with a special Saturday health fair showcasing Southern Hills and community health partners and including flu shots, blood pressure checks and more. The event will benefit Nevada high school students interested in the health care field through the High School to Healthcare scholarship program and The Public Education Foundation. 3. “The Secret Garden”: Signature Productions plans to present its fall musical Oct. 26-Nov. 21 at the Summerlin Library & Performing Arts Center, 1771 Inner Circle Drive. Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. five nights a week, with two Saturday matinees at 2 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 17. The show will be dark Sundays and Oct. 30 and Nov. 2, 11 and 16. 4. Fall festival:The Blue Diamond Fall Festival is planned at 5 p.m. Oct. 24 in the village’s Rec Hall. A dinner of pit roast pork and turkey, beans, potatoes, salads and desserts is set to be offered. A silent auction is planned. All proceeds support the Blue Diamond Recreation Association and Volunteer Fire Department. A rummage sale is planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and children’s activities are planned in the park adjacent to the hall at 2 p.m. The cost for the dinner and auction is $15 for adults and $7 for children. The small town is located within the confines of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, about 20 minutes west of Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Golf & Tennis Classic: The event to benefit the Las Vegas chapter of the nonprofit Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America is slated for 8 a.m. Oct. 26 at Red Rock Country Club, 2250 Red Springs Drive. Participants may sign up for either the golf or tennis event, which also includes breakfast, lunch, auction and raffles. Golfers will tee off in scramble fashion beginning at 8 a.m. (check-in opens at 7 a.m.) on the private Mountain course, and guests will have a chance to win a 2015 Lexus RX at the hole-in-one-competition. People of all ages can get outside and celebrate Nevada’s outdoor spaces with basic park and picnic fun, activities, rock climbing, and outfitters and organizations featuring the latest in recreational opportunities. HallOVeen: Visitors of all ages are invited to see the Magical Forest’s walkthroughs and rides transformed into a spooky land of goblins and ghosts from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 1, at Opportunity Village, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd. The last week of October, the attraction is set to be open from 5:30 to 9 p.m. nightly. Nov. 1 is set to feature a Day of the Dead theme. Bonnie Screams: Haunted attractions are set to take over Bonnie Springs Ranch, 16395 Bonnie Springs Road, from 7 p.m. to midnight daily through Oct. 31. Attractions include a zombie quarantine area, the No Hope Hospital, the Zombie Clown Circus, haunted trails and a haunted train ride. Magician Dixie Dooley is set to perform nightly. More than 60 species of native and desert-adapted trees and shrubs will be available, including plants appropriate for Mount Charleston and mid-upper elevation environments.
