LIFE TIME ATHLETIC SUMMERLIN TO HOST BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Life Time Athletic Summerlin, 10721 W. Charleston Blvd., plans to host the Ultimate Hoops Basketball League, run by parent company Life Time Fitness.

League play culminates in a national championship at the Summerlin location. The league includes several high-level basketball players, such as Chase Skinkis, who has participated in dunk contests around the country. Ultimate Hoops is year-round with adult leagues for those 18 or older. The national tournament is slated for May.

PROFESSIONAL TENNIS TEAM WON’T BE COMING TO LAS VEGAS AFTER ALL

The Las Vegas Neon, the World Team Tennis franchise that was set to call the Darling Tennis Center home, won’t be coming to Las Vegas after all.

The franchise was folded March 5 by the league after owner Deepal Wannakuwatte had the assests of Sacramento-based medical supply company, International Manufacturing Group Inc., frozen by a federal judge, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal article.

Wannakuwatte was arrested Feb. 20 in Sacramento on federal fraud charges. His family owned the franchise when it competed as the Sacramento Capitals.

BETTER BREATHERS SUPPORT GROUP TO MEET MARCH 13

The Better Breathers Support Group for people living with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer or other chronic lung conditions is set to meet at 1 p.m. March 13 at the Southwest Medical Associates Lifestyle Center-West, 8680 W. Cheyenne Ave.

The group meets the second Thursday of each month for about an hour. Family and friends are welcome.

OVERVIEW OF FRANCE TOUR SET FOR MARCH 13 AT PRESTIGE TRAVEL

Insight Vacations plans to present France’s Normandy, Brittany and Loire Valley tour at 5:30 p.m. March 13 at Prestige Travel, 7550 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Guest speaker Elayne Raksnys plans to discuss the tour’s stop in the Normandy beaches, which is commemorating the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The tour also includes visits to the American Military Cemetery and Invasion Landings Museum. Other highlights are Bayeux, Samur for wine tastings, Mont Saint-Michel, Chartres and Paris.

Ward 2 City Councilman Bob Beers plans to meet with residents at Avery’s Coffee in Village Square, 9440 W. Sahara Ave., from 7:30 to 9 a.m. March 14.

Another event, Beers with Beers, is planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 27 at Calico Jack’s Saloon, 8200 W. Charleston Blvd., for residents 21 or older.

EASTER SEALS WALK WITH ME SET FOR APRIL 19 AT BUNKER FAMILY PARK

The sixth annual Walk With Me event is planned for 9 a.m. April 19 at W. Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7300 W. Alexander Road.

The morning will be hosted by entertainer Earl Turner. He and others are set to lead the 2-mile walk to raise awareness and funds for Nevada residents living with disabilities through Easter Seals Nevada.

An Easter Carnival is set for 10 a.m. to noon with games, entertainment, concessions, face painting and live performances.

Rocks Lounge inside the Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd., plans to host a blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 19. Red Rock Resort plans to provide all donors with $5 dining vouchers valid at any Red Rock Resort-owned outlet. The Red Cross will be giving out T-shirts.

APRIL 25’S BIG GIVE TO FUND RAISE ONLINE

The third statewide online giving initiative, Nevada’s Big Give, is slated for April 25. Nevada’s Big Give is a day of online giving that benefits charities across the state. This initiative, launched by NevadaGIVES, is designed to bring new donors and dollars to Nevada nonprofits.

Every registered nonprofit is eligible to participate and receive donations April 25 through nvbiggive.org.

ART GALLERY SUBMISSIONS SOUGHT

The city of Las Vegas invites the submission of proposals for individual and group art exhibitions for its 2015-16 gallery season. Exhibits are being considered for the Las Vegas City Hall Grand Gallery, a sculpture space at 495 S. Main St. and the Charleston Heights Arts Center Gallery, 800 S. Brush St.

Applicants must submit a written exhibition outline, 15 to 20 supporting images, including identification information for each (artist name, title of artwork, medium); an artist statement(s) and artist resume(s). In addition, other suitable supporting materials may include exhibition press clippings. All visual art practices suitable for gallery installations lasting for 12 weeks will be considered.

To submit a proposal, send all materials and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to city of Las Vegas Galleries, c/o Jeanne Voltura, 495 S. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101.

Submissions must arrive no later than 5 p.m. May 1 to be included in the screening process. All applicants can expect notification regarding their proposal via mail by Sept. 30.
