WATER AUTHORITY workshops
to discuss infrastructure funding

The Southern Nevada Water Authority has announced a series of public workshops to review three options being considered by its board of directors to pay for water infrastructure.

In the northwest valley, a meeting is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Becker Middle School, 9151 Pinewood Hills Drive.

The open house-style meetings will provide residents and business owners an opportunity to ask questions and provide input before the Southern Nevada Water Authority Board of Directors votes on the matter at a special meeting Feb. 29.

The three options under consideration involve one based entirely upon monthly water use; a flat rate determined by meter size; and a hybrid of the two. For the average residential customer -- who uses a little more than 12,000 gallons of water a month -- the monthly consumption-based increase comes to a little less than $10, while the flat charge is $5, and a hybrid is more than $5, depending on consumption.

For business customers, the increase will depend upon the size of their meter and their monthly consumption. To help customers compare the three options, an online bill estimator has been created at snwa.com.
