The El Rancho, one of the oldest properties on the Las Vegas Strip, came down at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000.

More than 2,000 spectators watched as the 13-story hotel-casino was imploded by the Las Vegas-based LVI Environmental Services Inc. and Maryland-based Controlled Demolition Inc.

The El Rancho has stood vacant on Las Vegas Boulevard since 1992 when it was closed because of losses. Turnberry Associates, a Florida-based company, purchased the property in May.

Turnberry officials have not announced what will be built on the site.
