F. Lee Bailey: Paper proves OJ’s innocence

YARMOUTH, Maine — Evidence of O.J Simpson’s innocence was held back in the 1995 trial in which he was acquitted in the murder of his ex-wife and her friend in Los Angeles, one of his former lawyers says in a 20,000-word document document. F. Lee Bailey tells of four people who could have bolstered Simpson’s case but never testified.

Michael Douglas says tumor gone, recovery hopeful

NEW YORK — Michael Douglas says his tumor is gone and that he may have beaten throat cancer. In a taped interview with NBC’s Matt Lauer, Douglas said he felt relieved after a “wild, six-month ride.” He said that he had lost 32 pounds, but was now working out and had put 12 pounds back on.

Gaming revenues drop 6 percent in November

Gaming revenues fell almost 6 percent in November, ending a three-month rally by Nevada casinos. On the Strip, gaming revenues declined 4.1 percent, which halted four straight months of either increases or flat results. The focus was immediately trained on December, expected to close out 2010 on an upbeat note.

Stock Up for Bigger Savings

Last week, I left readers with this thought: The most expensive time to buy a product is when you actually need it. This is one of my core money-saving mantras, and it holds true with anything in life, not just groceries. If I want to buy a new winter coat, I will pay a high price for it in November and December. But as spring approaches, look for those same coats on clearance racks priced 50 percent to 75 percent off.

A Worthy Investment?

With the recent economic downturn and declines in home values, sales and ownership rates observed over the last few years, many people have been questioning whether buying and owning a home is a wise decision right now.

An Offer They Can Refuse?

We’re in the process of buying a “short sale.” The house was on the market for $97,000, and we offered $95,000 cash, an offer that was accepted by the owner and the real estate office representing the owner. The lender now wants an appraisal on the property, even though they have verbally accepted our offer. It seems funny that banks say they cannot get rid of these properties, but when someone has cash they don’t want it.

Project Upgrade

For years, the tried-and-true axiom among real estate professionals was that putting dollars into smart remodeling projects paid handsome dividends to homeowners. But judging by the latest data published in Remodeling magazine’s 2010-11 Cost vs. Value Report, sinking money into a major room/area redo may not be a worthy investment right now.
