The head of the state AFL-CIO asked a state Senate committee Wednesday to kill a proposal that would allow voters to decide whether to repeal Nevada’s minimum wage. The proposal calls for repealing the state constitutional amendment that sets Nevada’s minimum wage, now $8.25 per hour, at $1 more than the federal minimum wage.
A jury on Wednesday found Wackenhut provided inadequate security at a Walmart parking lot on June 2, 2004, the night retired Air Force Maj. Michael Born was mortally wounded while changing his car’s headlight. Jurors said the security firm must pay more than $1 million in the wrongful death case in which the jury was convinced Wackenhut’s security was woefully inadequate.
