It’s much easier — not to mention cheaper — for UNLV to ditch a mascot than the nickname the university has been known by since the mid-1950s.

Oblad, a Liberty High School product, has three years of eligibility remaining. He said there were a lot of factors that went into his decision to leave the Rebels.
UNLV is retiring the Hey Reb! mascot, but retaining its Rebels nickname, university president E. Keith Whitfield announced Tuesday afternoon.
