Desert Pines’ defense stepped up in the second half and its offense went on a 17-3 third-quarter run behind Trevon Abdullah-Booker to pull away for a 74-59 win over the top-seeded Chaparral in a Class 3A Southern Region semifinal at Sunrise Mountain on Thursday.
Desert Pines controlled the game throughout, despite losing one of its starters early in the first quarter, and coasted to a 79-48 victory over the Del Sol Dragons in the Class 3A Southern Region quarterfinals.
