Conner Nicholas picked up his fourth victory in an invitational meet this season by capturing the large-school race of the Lake Mead Invitational on Saturday at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
Claire Rawlins trailed Basic’s Raquel Chavez for much of the race, but stayed within striking distance to the end. She then raced past Chavez and held off Sierra Vista’s Sarriah Brown to win the 3.1-mile race in 19 minutes, 16 seconds.
Puskas surged to the lead entering the final mile and held off the rest of the field to finish the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 25.7 seconds, for her biggest cross country win of a still-young prep career.
Pahrump Valley senior Bryce Odegard finished the 3.1-mile race in 17 minutes, 36 seconds on Friday to capture his second consecutive individual region cross country title and lead the Trojans to the team title with 39 points.
Arbor View’s Keith Williams led at the front of a pack of five runners early. Eventually, he managed to hold off PahrumpValley’s Bryce Odegard and Centennial’s Alexander Miller in the final quarter mile, putting in a good finishing kick to cross the line in 16 minutes and 13 seconds.
Four of the top five placers at Saturday’s 3-mile Red Rock Invitational Sunset Meet at Floyd Lamb Park were members of Centennial’s girls cross country team, and the Bulldogs cruised to a victory with 19 team points.
