Three Clark County teenagers have died from suicide in the first month of the school year — a time period that saw none last year — prompting growing concerns about the mental health of K-12 students among district leaders and advocates.

“Our numbers have gone up really quickly in a short amount of time, which means that the virus is moving,” said Dawna Brown, director of Pyramid Lake Tribal Health Clinic.
After testing positive for the disease, Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Rio Lacanlale worried about how many people she might have infected before her symptoms began.
“It makes you feel so isolated,” said Rachael Anderson, who was quarantined in a hospital room with her infant son before his test results came back negative.
“The question is not if we can prevent COVID-19 from entering ICE detention facilities in Nevada, it is how we can minimize its impact on individuals when it happens,” one immigration lawyer said.
“This response we’re seeing, the panicked shopping, is people trying to gain control of an unknown situation,” one psychologist said.
