Ten Las Vegas Valley basketball players — five boys and five girls — have been nominated to play in the McDonald’s All-American Games in March in Chicago.
After two years of waiting for the Tarkanian Classic to return, Bishop Gorman wasted no time in showing it was ready to play Friday on its home floor.
Sebastian Mack scored 30 points, and Durango had an answer every time Faith Lutheran made a run in a 78-66 win in the first round of the Class 4A state tournament.
Bishop Gorman scored 33 first-quarter points and beat Durango in coach Grant Rice’s 500th win at the school, for the Desert Region championship.
Mwani Wilkinson scored 23 points, and his layup off a pass from Ryan Abelman with 1.8 seconds left lifted Bishop Gorman to a 61-59 win over Liberty.
The Bishop Gorman boys and Centennial girls are clear favorites once again, but there are some sleepers that could do some damage in the postseason.
Plenty of league titles and playoff seedings hang in the balance, and several games will determine how teams line up entering the postseason.
