Nathan Carlin pulled away from the field Tuesday and helped Foothill’s boys cross country team capture the freshmen race of the Bud O’Dea Classic at Desert Breeze Park.

Omar Rubio led the way, as he once again edged Arbor View’s Ian Jackson at the end to win the 3.1-mile race. Rubio sprinted away in the final 300 meters to win in 16 minutes, 24.4 seconds. Jackson finished second in 16:26.9.
Centennial’s Alexis Gourrier, who finished the 3.1-mile race in 17 minutes, 34.7 seconds, has finished first at the Las Vegas Invitational in each of her three years of high school.
Ian Jackson was part of the lead pack from the start before accelerating through the final mile to win the junior-senior boys race in 16:44.4 – more than 18 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Centennial’s girls cross country team had the top four runners and nine of the top 11 to win a six-team meet at Floyd Lamb Park on Wednesday.
