With three weeks left in the regular season, high school football teams are preparing to make a playoff run and compete for a state championship.
It was only two years ago that Centennial played for a state championship. The rebuilding Bulldogs picked up their first win, 9-8 over Legacy on Friday.
Here are Saturday’s results for the championship and third-place matches at the Class 4A, 3A and 2A state wrestling meets.

Daniel Britt threw four touchdown passes and ran for one as the Patriots rolled to the Desert Region semis. Bishop Gorman domainated Coronado 52-7.
Centennial needs a win over a Cimarron-Memorial team that is out of the playoff race to claim its first league title since 2002 and the No. 1 seed in the Northwest League.
Martin Blake ran for 113 yards and a touchdown and returned a punt for a score to help the Pioneers to a 48-7 Southeast League win over Eldorado.
The Chargers have earned all of their three league wins in dramatic fashion by a total of 15 points, but their 49-48 win over Desert Oasis clinched a playoff berth.
Even with Centennial’s 17-14 win over Arbor View and Virgin Valley’s 14-7 victory over Boulder City factored in, the average margin among the 15 games was 34.5 points.
Led by senior Tyler Edlefsen, Palo Verde scored 91 points to hold off second-place Coronado, which scored 84, and won the Class 4A state title.
After having their three-year state championship streak snapped last season, the Panthers made a relatively easy time of winning the Class 4A state title.
Centennial ran away with its ninth straight Class 4A team championship. The Bulldogs scored 126 points. Runners-up Carson and Sierra Vista each had 54.
Bonds, who also ran on the winning 400 relay team and finished third in the 100, helped Centennial build a big lead heading into Saturday’s events.
