Deanna Barrera smacked a single up the middle to score Ashlyn Heck from second base in the bottom of the seventh, capping a three-run seventh-inning rally as the host Bulldogs edged Shadow Ridge, 3-2 in the Mountain Region Tournament.
Basic’s junior pitcher was in control from the start, tossing a six-hitter and striking out 10 to help the Wolves to a 7-1 home win over Liberty in the winners’ bracket semifinals of the Desert Region Tournament.
The Rams took their first step toward their fourth state berth in five years with a 6-4 home win over stubborn Palo Verde in the opening round of the Mountain Region tournament.
Coronado and Centennial both won Tuesday to secure the No. 1 seeds for their respective region softball tournament.
MacKenzie Perry scattered seven hits and struck out 14 in a complete-game effort Monday as Rancho’s softball team improved to 17-0 overall with an 11-1 win at Las Vegas High.

Winning pitcher Ashley Ward went 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs to lead Coronado’s softball team to a 14-7 home win over Green Valley on Saturday.
Lorena De La Torre hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Liliana Gutierrez in the bottom of the sixth inning and give Rancho’s softball team a 9-8victory over visiting Silverado on Tuesday evening.
Holly Severence homered and drove in three runs Saturday to help the Desert Oasis softball team beat Silverado 14-6 in six innings in the championship game of the Colorado River Invitational in Needles, California.
Ashley Ward went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs to lead the Coronado’s softball team to a 12-5 win over Torrance (California) at the Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Arizona.
