Basic’s junior pitcher was in control from the start, tossing a six-hitter and striking out 10 to help the Wolves to a 7-1 home win over Liberty in the winners’ bracket semifinals of the Desert Region Tournament.

Amanda Sink threw a three-hitter and hit the game-winning home run with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday as the Legacy softball team edged visiting Durango, 3-2.
Tatum Spangler went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs to help the Coronado softball team to a 13-4 win over Frontier (Calif.) on Thursday in the Torrance National Tournament in Torrance, California.
Coronado junior Basia Query has been named the Southeast League”s Most Valuable Player. She hit .452 with 12 doubles and 36 RBIs for the Cougars, who won the Southeast softball title. Query floated between catcher and shortstop, depending on where her team needed her.
Brandy Marlett didn’t win a league title in her first three years as a member of Rancho’s softball team.
Jillian James threw a five-inning no-hitter and was 4-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs to lift Coronado’s softball team to a 12-0 victory over host Basic on Thursday.
