Golden Knights quiet, but several NHL teams make deals before draft

CHICAGO — NHL teams were active Friday moving players and picks hours before the league’s entry draft was to begin at the United Center, but the Golden Knights had not made a deal.

However, there were a couple of reports that the Knights were looking to position themselves for a shot at Nolan Patrick, considered one of the top two players in the draft. The New York Rangers were also reportedly trying to improve their draft position after swinging a deal with Arizona to get the No. 7 overall pick.

If the Golden Knights try to move up to get Patrick it will likely cost them their No. 6 overall pick and possibly their No.13 and 15. New Jersey has the No. 1 overall selection and Philadelphia has the second pick. Dallas is in the No. 3 slot.

The biggest move of the day was the Coyotes trading the No. 7 overall pick and defenseman Anthony DeAngelo to the Rangers for goaltender Antti Raanta and forward Derek Stepan. The move gives the Rangers two first-round selections. New York also has the 21st pick.

The Coyotes also traded forward Laurent Dauphin and defenseman Connor Murphy to Chicago for defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson.

The Blackhawks also made a trade with Columbus, sending forward Artemi Panarin, forward Tyler Motte and their sixth-round pick for center Brandon Saad, goaltender Anton Forsberg and the Blue Jackets’ fifth-round pick in 2018. Saad is a former Blackhawk.

The Blue Jackets also sent forward Dante Salituro to the Minnesota Wild for forward Jordan Schroeder.

On the free agent front, forward T.J. Oshie has agreed to an eight-year, $46 million deal to remain with the Washington Capitals. Oshie was a possible target for the Golden Knights when the free agency period opens July 1.
