Survivors of California freeway plane crash released from hospital

SANTA ANA, Calif. — The couple whose small plane crashed and burst into flames on a Southern California freeway three weeks ago has been released from the hospital.

Orange County Global Medical Center said Wednesday that the couple will continue their rehab and are on a path to a full recovery.

Sixty-two-year-old Francis Pisano and 55-year-old Janan Pisano suffered spinal fractures in the June 30 crash on Interstate 405 in Orange County.

In a statement obtained by the Orange County Register, Janan Pisano thanked civilians and first-responders who came to their aid.

They were the only people aboard a Cessna that crashed on the freeway just short of John Wayne Airport.

Before the wreck, the pilot reported losing power in one engine.

Nobody on the ground was hurt.

An off-duty firefighter pulled the Pisanos from the fiery wreckage.
