Hat-trick hero Tyler Wong among Golden Knights’ training camp cuts

The Golden Knights made another round of training camp cuts Monday. And hat trick hero Tyler Wong was among the casualties.

Wong will join the training camp of the Chicago Wolves, the Knights’ American Hockey League affiliate, along with fellow forward Keegan Kolesar, defenseman Jake Bischoff and goaltenders Oscar Dansk and Maxime Lagace.

Wong, 21, was in training camp on an AHL contract and was a long shot to make the roster. The 5-foot-9-inch sniper scored three goals and finished with four points in the Knights’ 9-4 win over Vancouver to open the preseason and quickly became a fan favorite.

The Knights opted to keep Czech import Tomas Hyka, who has four goals in three preseason games.

Hyka will have another opportunity to win a job Tuesday when the Knights host the Los Angeles Kings at 7 p.m. at T-Mobile Arena.

The team confirmed that forwards Paul Thompson and T.J. Tynan were placed on waivers.

Name in ice

The Knights found a unique way to honor their season ticket holders.

Prior to Tuesday’s preseason home opener against the Los Angeles Kings, the team embedded the names of their season-ticket holders under the ice at T-Mobile Arena.

The list of names stretches the width of the ice sheet and is located inside the blue line that the Knights will defend twice during games.

“Our members obviously have an extremely special and fundamental piece of the organization, and we don’t want them to feel like they’re just buying tickets. They’re a part of this,” said Todd Pollock, the Knights vice president of ticketing and suites. “I think it’s a great tribute to them. … We hope people appreciate it and love it and are as excited about it as we are.”

The team is reminding fans who are driving to Tuesday’s game to arrive early and park in the designated garage that corresponds with your prepaid parking. Fans who did not purchase parking will be charged $25 at the Excalibur garage or $20 at the MGM Grand garage.

Prepaid parking can be purchased online at lasvegas.parkmobile.com.

Regional Transportation Commission express bus service will not be available for Tuesday’s game, according to a spokesman.

Fan Fest

The Knights’ Fan Fest event takes place at 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at the 3rd Street Stage on Fremont Street Experience.

The free ceremony will feature players and coaches, and the team also will unveil its mascot.

Odds and ends

— Defenseman Brayden McNabb sat out practice Monday after taking a shot off the foot in Sunday’s 4-2 win at Anaheim. He is not in the lineup Tuesday vs. the Kings.

— Injured forwards James Neal (hand) and Brendan Leipsic (undisclosed) skated prior to Monday’s practice.

— Forward Jake Leschyshyn was returned to Regina of the Western Hockey League.

— The Knights will debut their dark-colored uniforms Tuesday vs. the Kings, with black (not white!) gloves and steel gray helmets.
