Skye Canyon to hold Chalktober Fest

Chalk up a good time and celebrate fall at the second annual Chalktober Fest from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at Skye Canyon Park in the northwest valley on U.S. Highway 95 at Skye Canyon Park Drive. Sip seasonal craft beers and wine, eat delicious food from popular food trucks, take in local art and enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities at this all-ages event.

More than 70 local artists will compete for cash prizes in the chalk art competition, while others will showcase and sell their work in an impressive art fair that includes painting, drawing, charcoal, collage, sculpture and photography. Local band Street Folk will provide live music throughout the afternoon.

Event attendees should prepare to be “wowed” as professional artist Jay Schwartz creates a large-scale, chalk art design during the event. Those who feel inspired can join in the fun in a designated “freestyle chalk art area” for guests of all ages. A separate craft space invites kids to create masterpieces they can take home.

Additional kids’ activities include two bounce houses, a giant slide, face painting, a fall-themed photo booth— and free pumpkins while supplies last. A suggested donation of $2 per pumpkin will benefit Create a Change, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating children on healthy food choices. Halloween costumes are encouraged but not required.
