Bills’ LeSean McCoy calls off meeting with Philly DA over nightclub incident

Lawyers for Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy called off Tuesday's meeting with the Philadelphia district attorney because they feared a "media circus."

McCoy and three friends are being investigated after a fight at a nightclub on Feb. 7 in Philadelphia left two off-duty police officers with serious injuries.

District Attorney R. Seth Williams released a statement on Friday indicating that the investigation is ongoing and that his office would take its time to examine the facts surrounding the alleged altercation.

McCoy and three others allegedly were involved in the incident with the off-duty officers that apparently started over a bottle of champagne. The officers suffered broken ribs and other injuries.

"My team and I are continuing to investigate the incident that took place at the Recess Lounge," Williams said Friday in a statement. "Like with all investigations, I don't comment about what I will or will not do until all of the evidence has been thoroughly reviewed."

The Philadelphia police union and the mayor's office have pushed for the district attorney to file charges, but the Buffalo News reported last week that there are some questions about the officers' conduct that concern the district attorney's office.

The police union said the cancelation of Tuesday's meeting looked like "special treatment," according to a tweet attributed to John McNesby, president of the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police.

"To have a DA personally meet with a potential defendant or his lawyer before being charged is bizarre," McNesby said.

McCoy spent six years with the Eagles before joining the Bills before the 2015 season.
