ROUNDUP: Falcons drag down Del Sol
The fifth-ranked Falcons wasted little time proving they had done their homework, trouncing visiting Del Sol 42-10 on Friday night.
Parker Riggin completed 21 of 28 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown to help Foothill seize momentum early and improve to 6-0 overall, 2-0 in the Southeast League.
Redmond insisted the game was no cakewalk.
“Del Sol is a very good team,” he said. “They’ve got some good players and they’re very well coached. This game was a lot closer than the score seemed.”
Though the Falcons needed only four minutes to cap a 13-play, 80-yard drive on Connor Afoa’s 1-yard run, the Dragons (2-4, 0-2) quickly closed the gap to 6-3 on Dylan Lindemann’s 35-yard field goal.
Afoa expanded Foothill’s lead to 14-3 with a 16-yard run, but the Dragons answered again minutes later with a 73-yard scoring sprint by Duane Kirkland.
Kyle Keplinger made sure Del Sol’s celebration was brief, bolting 94 yards for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff, giving the Falcons a 21-10 lead.
“That was a huge momentum swing for us,” Redmond said.
Riggin, who completed 9 of his first 10 passes, began wearing down Del Sol’s defense in the second quarter. His 16-yard TD pass to Connor Waitkus made it 28-10 just before halftime.
“We’ve had this package, but we haven’t used it all year,” Redmond said of the short passing game. “Parker made some great reads, and I think we confused (Del Sol) early in the game.”
Foothill pulled away in the second half. Miles Killebrew, who rushed for 129 yards on 14 carries, scored on a 54-yard scoring run late in the third quarter, and Brandon Wiltz added a 1-yard plunge.
Keplinger gained 114 yards on nine receptions. Afoa, who left the game with a second-half knee injury, caught three passes for 49 yards.
Kirkland led Del Sol with 110 yards on seven carries and Chris Marshall had 101 on 26 carries.
Legacy 20, Cimarron-Memorial 14 — At Legacy, quarterback Jordan Pinkney ran 39 yards for a tiebreaking TD on fourth-and-two, his third score of the game, with three minutes to play and the Longhorns (2-3, 2-2 Northwest) stunned No. 9 Cimarron-Memorial (2-3, 2-3).
After Legacy’s unsuccessful 2-point conversion attempt, Cimarron drove to the Longhorns 33 before Fred Washington sealed the victory with an interception of Gerard Martinez.
The Spartans led 7-0 at halftime after Martinez’s 15-yard TD pass to Taz Taoipu.
Legacy and Cimarron traded touchdowns in the third quarter, with Pinkney sandwiching scoring runs of 12 and 8 around a 16-yarder by Taoipu.
L.J. McMorris rushed for 100 yards on nine carries, all in the second half, to lead Legacy. Jordan Ireland added 96 yards rushing and Pinkney 72.
Cimarron’s Christian Brown gained 112 yards on 28 carries.
Curtis finished with six receptions for 106 yards, and Izaiah Thurman rushed for 87 yards and a 9-yard score to fuel a Silverado ground game that compiled 256 yards.
Silverado’s defense limited Coronado to 3 yards of offense in the first half, and Cade Campbell (59 yards) and Cory Iwata (24) returned interceptions for touchdowns.
Coronado quarterback Kevin Lucero came on in relief and threw TD passes of 16 and 60 yards to Cody Mucino.
Hayes rushed for 168 yards on 15 carries, and Chancellor Davis rushed for a 6-yard touchdown. Shaw also had 52 yards rushing and 22 receiving.
Valley quarterback Anthony Sanders went 11-for-18 with 152 yards and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Rashad Richardson. The Vikings were hurt by three second-half turnovers in Jaguars territory.
Arbor View marched 80 yards on nine plays to start the second half, with Roderick Eason’s 42-yard TD on a reverse and Steve Burns' 2-point conversion run tying the game.
After a Shadow Ridge punt, the Aggies offense moved 47 yards in seven plays, capped by a 20-yard run by Donnie Gaskin for a 21-14 lead.
Gaskin led the Aggies’ 320-yard ground attack with 148 yards on 25 carries and Eason had 61 on eight carries. Quarterback Henry Hoffend scored on a 1-yard dive and Burns supplied a 4-yard run for an insurance score.
Michael Tootle rushed for 47 yards on 10 carries for Shadow Ridge (2-3, 0-3). Josh Mullins returned a fumble 15 yards for a TD and Bryan Beaman returned a blocked field-goal attempt 93 yards for a score.
Pumphrey rushed for 147 yards on 19 carries, including scores of 9 and 2 yards, and caught three passes for 46 yards, with a 23-yard touchdown. Canyon Springs’ Jamaal Martin and D’Vante Howard combined to pass for 217 yards and each had two TD passes.
The Pioneers scored twice on long fourth-down plays, including a 35-yard jump-ball from Howard to Chayson Lawson on fourth-and-goal.
Lawson also caught a 41-yard TD pass from Martin.
For Rancho (3-3, 2-1), Shamel David ran for a 65-yard touchdown and D’Andre Mason caught a 4-yard TD pass from Will Gosse-Gardet.
Mora carried for 108 yards on 17 carries, with touchdowns of 4, 25 and 38 yards, and caught scoring passes of 45 and 70.
Chase Roberts passed for 242 yards and four scores, including a 55-yarder to Winston Williams during a 28-point third quarter that carried Durango.
Spring Valley’s Jordan Cox passed for 165 yards, with touchdowns of 12, 14 and 37. Austyn Wallace ran for 135 yards on 13 carries, including a 64-yard score.
Derrick West ran for 137 yards, including a 61-yard TD, before exiting with an injury late in the first half. Greg McKinney passed for 67 yards, including an 18-yard TD to Jackson in the third quarter.
Western’s Tadarrel Mason rushed for 119 yards, including a 12-yard TD.
Sprau and Martin hooked up for a 53-yard TD on the first offensive play and added an 85-yard score. Martin also rushed for TDs of 20 and 27 yards, and Sprau ran for scores of 38, 18 and 47 while accounting for 457 of Bonanza’s 577 yards.
Pahrump Valley got rushing touchdowns by Jonathan Mitchell (4 yards), Josh Harvey (4) and Brandon Murphy (12).
Farrell Victor and Lamond Powe combined to rush for 161 yards on 22 carries, with Victor scoring on a 29-yard run and Powe on an 8-yarder.
Tra’von Langston had five catches for 92 yards, with third-quarter TD receptions of 26 and 10 yards from Hasaan Henderson.
Jay Mattox kicked two field goals and converted two point-after kicks.
Thegenus Karlventz rushed for 40 yards for the Cowboys.
Clark scored on a 1-yard sneak in the first quarter and added TD strikes of 21 yards to Taj Cole and 8 yards to Cody Milford.
Jacobi Owens rushed for 121 yards on 15 carries, including a 50-yard touchdown, and the Bulldogs defense held Mojave to 39 yards of total offense.
Brown’s return, in the opening minute, was 27 yards and Claros’ was 26.
Eldorado scored twice in the final 41 seconds of the first half on a 5-yard run by Cesar Urruitia and a 40-yard pass from JaQuorrey Williams to Giovanni Latty.
Urruitia rushed for touchdowns of 1 and 5 yards, and Brett VanOrden caught TD passes from Williams of 3 and 65 yards. Williams completed 6 of 14 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns.
Chynna Hartmann was 7-for-7 on extra points and kicked a 29-yard field goal for Eldorado.
Damon Burton led Sunrise Mountain with 104 yards on 22 carries, including a 17-yard score.
Faith Lutheran 53, Boulder City 14 — At Faith Lutheran, the Crusaders (3-2) forced seven turnovers while building a 53-0 halftime lead and rolled past the Class 3A Eagles (3-3).
Joe Portaro completed 10 of 15 passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half. He hooked up with Greg Thomas for a 6-yard TD and Don Pearson for scores of 8 and 45 yards.
Faith Lutheran’s defense supplied four touchdowns. A.J. Kaplan and Brad Pearson ran back interceptions for scores of 2 and 29 yards, respectively; Cole Nikodemus returned a fumble 5 yards; and Mark Caine recovered a fumble in the end zone.
Boulder City’s Joe Woodbury returned the second-half kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, and Matt Combs scored on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter.
David George made an interception with 19 seconds left to seal the win.
Green Valley’s Aaron Love scored on runs of 40 and 22 yards among his 126 yards on 17 carries, and McKay completed 19 of 31 passes for 201 yards.
The Class 3A Pirates (2-3) were led by Kelan Weiss, who passed for 283 yards and three scores. Hayden Cooper caught nine passes for 125 yards and two TDs, and Casen Lewis made eight catches for 121 yards and a TD.
Agassi Prep 30, Mountain View 16 — At Rancho, Tank Carter ran for a 22-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter and DeVonn Porter added a 41-yard score to help the Stars (3-1, 3-0 2A Southern) break a 16-16 tie and beat the Saints (2-4, 1-2).
Porter also scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter, and LeShaun Sims caught an 11-yard TD pass from Terrell Kemp in the second.
Mountain View’s T.J. Engel passed for 143 yards, ran for 48 and scored a touchdown both ways. Trevor Van Kempen caught six passes for 106 yards and a TD, and Jacob Duldulao rushed for 97 yards.
The Meadows 36, White Pine 33 — At The Meadows, Garrett Gosse passed for 317 yards and four touchdowns, and the Mustangs (3-2, 3-0 2A Southern) held off a rally by the Bobcats (1-4, 1-2).
Gosse connected with Max Newman for touchdowns of 22 and 30 yards and Austin Brown for 13 and 58 yards while building a 36-13 halftime lead.
Chase Marrs also ran 70 yards for a touchdown on the Mustangs’ first play from scrimmage.
White Pine awoke in the third quarter, scoring on a 47-yard run by Levi Valdez, a 12-yard fumble return by Zach Snow and a 30-yard pass from Josh Ashby to Jake Johnson.
Brown intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter to preserve the win for The Meadows. He finished with six receptions for 141 yards. Marrs ran nine times for 100 yards.
Needles 49, Lincoln County 26 — At Panaca, Austin Baldwin scored three touchdowns as the Mustangs (3-2, 3-0 2A Southern) pulled away from the Lynx (1-4, 0-3).
Daric Courtwright added a pair of touchdowns for Needles, which led 22-0 at halftime before Lincoln County cut the lead to 22-14 in the third quarter.
Pahranagat Valley 78, Round Mountain 6 — At Round Mountain, the Panthers (5-0, 1-0 1A Southern) rolled past the Knights (2-3, 0-2) after taking a 58-6 halftime lead.
