Fact finding for fatal police shooting in Jean set for Friday
A public hearing to disclose the facts of a fatal officer-involved-shooting that happened in March 2014 in Jean will be held Friday morning.
Las Vegas police shot and killed 58-year-old Ronald Wayne Tate on March 16 last year near the Jean Airport after a brief standoff.
Police responded to Tate’s RV after the employees of a skydiving company called police and said Tate had pointed a gun at them.
Officers spent 20 minutes coaxing Tate out of his RV. When he emerged, Tate was holding a 12-gauge shotgun. Tate “attempted to chamber a round,” and a SWAT officer shot and killed him, police said in the days following the shooting.
Retired Las Vegas Justice of the Peace William Jansen will preside over the fact-finding review, which begins at 9 a.m. at the Clark County Government Building, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. The fact-finding review replaced the coroner’s inquest in 2013.
