Pizza delivery murder suspect showed up at victim’s memorial service

Police have charged a second man in connection to the death of a local pizza delivery man.

The man charged on Thursday brings a bizarre twist to the story.

The untouched pizza boxes in the car that is surrounded by crime scene tape is an image that haunts Rob May.

“You’re waiting on somebody that’s never going to come back, that’s really the tough thing that I’m trying to overcome myself,” May said.

May was working at Cottage Inn Pizza the night delivery driver David Fuller was shot and killed at an abandoned home on West Genesee Street in Flint.

“Speechless, speechless, that’s about the only thing you can say,” May said.

On Thursday, police said that a former Cottage Inn employee who was fired earlier this year may have been the mastermind behind the killing.

“Some of the investigation does indicate that there was a gang initiation taking place of some sort,” Genesee County Assistant Prosecutor John Potbury said.

Prosecutors have charged Ahquan Lay in connection to Fuller’s murder.

Investigators believe Lay called the shots. They said he set up the delivery call and handed Kevin Thompson a rifle. Police said Thompson pulled the trigger, killing Fuller, to earn his role in the Hit Squad gang.

“He was just doing his job, working for the pizza company, and it was just a really unfortunate situation,” Potbury said.

Potbury said investigators still don’t know why Lay targeted Fuller. Co-workers told TV5 they seemed to get along. In fact, Fuller sold his old car to lay shortly before his death.

Lay even showed up to a memorial service held by family and friends at the murder scene. A picture was snapped where you can clearly see Lay posing with Fuller’s co-workers.

“Whatever the case may be, it was definitely childish and pointless on how it had to go down,” May said.

Thompson and May are lodged in the Genesee County Jail in connection to Fuller’s death. The men face a laundry list of charges, including murder, gang initiation, armed robbery and felony weapons.
