Rain postpones 51s’ game at Cashman Field

One of the safest bets in Las Vegas is that a 51s game won’t be rained out. But it’s never a lock, as an expected crowd of 8,000 for a 51s-Albuquerque Pacific Coast League game at Cashman Field found out Saturday night.

The game, which was scheduled for 7:05 p.m., was rained out and will be made up Monday as part of a doubleheader scheduled for 6 p.m.

It was the 51s’ first rainout at Cashman Field since Aug. 25, 2008, and the eighth home rainout in the Triple-A franchise’s 33-year history. A 51s game also was postponed because of power failure on July 3, 2011.

Today’s game, scheduled for 12:05 p.m., will feature Saturday’s scheduled starting pitchers in Las Vegas right-hander Matthew Bowman (0-3, 10.93 ERA) and Isotopes right-hander David Hale, who will make a major league rehabilitation start for the parent Colorado Rockies.

Righty Noah Syndergaard (0-0, 4.70), the New York Mets’ No. 1 prospect, and left-hander Darin Gorski (2-1, 6.43) are slated to start Monday’s doubleheader for the 51s (8-8), who won their past two games at Reno.

Fans who had tickets to Saturday’s game — which was promoted as “Jacob deGrom 51s Jersey Night” — can exchange them for any other Las Vegas home game this season.
