Pedestrian struck by car in northeast valley dies

A 30-year-old man died after he was hit by a car Thursday evening in the northeast valley, according to Las Vegas police.

Officers responded about 6:40 p.m. to Alto Avenue and North Lamb Boulevard where the man was either standing in crossing through the right travel lane of southbound Lamb and was struck by a Chevrolet pickup, according to Metro Detective Richard Tusko.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

The 38-year-old driver of the truck stayed at the scene and was arrested on charges of misdemeanor DUI. The charge was not a felony because initial investigations indicate the pedestrian was at fault, Tusko said.

The pedestrian was wearing black jeans and a brown sweatshirt at the time of the crash and was crossing or standing in a poorly lit section of Lamb outside of a crosswalk, Tusko said.

The intersection was closed to traffic while police investigated.
