Man accused of fatally shooting his mother, injuring sister

Updated July 28, 2025 - 1:57 pm

A 26-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting his mother and sending his sister to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Sunday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

On Monday, police identified Jacob Lister as the suspected shooter. In a statement, Metro said Lister was arrested near the scene and charged with open murder and attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Lister was being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

Metro said they received a report of a shooting in the 7800 block of West Ford Avenue near South Buffalo Drive at 5:27 p.m. Sunday. When officers entered the home, they found two women suffering from gunshot wounds.

Metro Homicide Lt. Robert Price on Sunday night said a man in his 20s called 911 and said he shot his mother and sister.

The suspect’s mother, in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The sister, in her 20s, was transported to University Medical Center, where she was in critical condition as of Sunday night, Lt. Price said.

Due to the relationship between the suspect and victims, Lt. Price said it is being investigated as a domestic violence-related homicide. He said he did not know what escalated the incident.

Lister, who refused to be transported to court for a Tuesday afternoon hearing, was ordered held without bail. He is due in court again on Wednesday.
