Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in south Las Vegas; suspect in custody
A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Thursday morning in the south Las Vegas Valley, and a driver suspected of leaving the scene has been apprehended.
The crash occurred just before 3:20 a.m. on South Las Vegas Boulevard north of East Cactus Avenue, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release.
Investigators say a pedestrian was walking south along a stretch of road without a sidewalk or street lights. A 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup driving south in the furthest right travel lane struck the pedestrian with the front right and caused him to be thrown onto the roadway.
The Ford and the driver fled the scene without providing any identifying information.
Medical personnel responded and pronounced the victim, a 47-year-old Las Vegas man, dead at the scene.
The driver, identified as Pedro Jimenez Jr., 59, of Ontario, California, was found and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on applicable charges. He is scheduled for his initial court appearance Friday morning.
The pedestrian’s death marks the 159th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2025. This collision remains under investigation by the Metro’s Collision Investigation Section.
