Get ready for wind, blowing dust Tuesday afternoon

Windy conditions are expected to stir up dust Tuesday afternoon in the Las Vegas Valley.

The Clark County Department of Air Quality issued the advisory in anticipation of blowing dust due to wind speeds between 25 and 30 mph starting about 11 a.m.

With gusts up to 45 mph, air quality officials are asking construction sites to take precautions to prevent blowing dust and urging travelers to drive slowly on unpaved roads. Young children, the elderly and people who may have respiratory diseases should stay indoors in the event of a dust storm.

While Tuesday’s highs are expected to reach the mid-80s, Wednesday will be calmer and cooler with highs in the mid-70s, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Outler. Thursday and Friday will be warmer, Outler said, and another wind system is expected to blow through Friday afternoon.
