Late night fire destroys vacant house in east Las Vegas
An large abandoned two-story house burned early Thursday morning in east Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department.
Las Vegas and Clark County fire departments showed up at a fully engulfed home shortly before 11 p.m. at 1701 E. St. Louis Ave., near Maryland Parkway, fire officials said.
Heat from the blaze started fires in utility posts. Some neighbors were evacuated for a time as their homes were threatened by the fire.
Las Vegas fire officials said it took firefighters another hour to contain the fire. Due to its intensity, firefighters remained on the scene to tend to hot spots.
Fire officials said neighbors told them the house had been abandoned for three years and that it was a haven for homeless people.
A video shows firefighters combating the fire from outside of the structure’s tan walls and green roof while water swept through the street.
No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation.
