Court to evaluate sanity of suspect in 5 Nevada killings

FERNLEY — A 25-year-old Northern Nevada man accused of killing five people will have his sanity evaluated by a district court.

Jeremiah Bean appeared in the Fernley Justice Court on Tuesday for a procedural hearing to transfer his case to Lyon County.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported the Lyon County district attorney’s office had not decided whether they would seek the death penalty.

Bean is charged with killing two couples in two homes in the rural town of Fernley and a newspaper deliveryman off an Interstate 80 exit in Sparks during Mother’s Day weekend.

He was convicted of burglary in 2011 in Lyon County and granted probation, which records show was revoked six months later. He was jailed for a year and released in September.
