Construction creates highway dangers
I’m concerned about the safety of the people who drive our roads and pay the taxes. On Interstate 215 construction is ongoing but there are no dividers for the traffic going both ways. This, despite the fact that a head-on collision, killing one, occurred. They did put dividers between the crew and the traffic, which also makes sense. But you, the people have to realize that there is only a yellow line between you and the oncoming traffic.
Recently, there were cops all over giving out tickets to anyone going faster than 45 mph, as posted. But a head-on at 45 mph is like slamming into a brick wall at 90 mph.
My family and some of yours have to drive this route every day. Do you want that knock on your door from the police telling you a loved one is lost? Do you?

Price gouging
I agree with the March 31 letter from Janice Herr to a point (“Rising gas prices”). She is wrong to state nothing can be done. If any readers feel that gas prices are way out of line, and I certainly do, they have an alternative: Register a complaint of price gouging with the Federal Trade Commission. It is very easy to go to the FTC website and register the complaint.
It seems that Southern Nevada gas prices are always higher than the national average, not a little, but a lot. When prices increase more than a dime a day, and keep rising, I consider that price gouging. When prices decrease, it is always a penny a day. This translates to pure greed by the oil companies, which still get government subsidies (tax breaks).
Complain to your congressional representative to affect change. This is the public’s only recourse. It is a start. If enough people complain to the FTC and Congress, I would think they would sit up and take notice. There is power in numbers.

By the letters
I could not believe the April 1 letter by Kristine Lowe-Martin in which she confused the acronym ISIS with an Egyptian goddess, berating the media and the Review-Journal for identifying “a terrorist group as ISIS. Isis was an Egyptian goddess.” She went on to say that, “A group of cult serial killers should not be able to identify itself with gods.”
For the benefit of Ms. Lowe-Martin, ISIS is an acronym for Islamic State of Iraq &Syria, a militant group that follows an Islamic fundamentalist doctrine, claiming religious, political and military authority over all Muslims, worldwide. Isis is the name of the Egyptian Goddess of Magic and Life. Her name, however, is not an acronym.
To assist in understanding, an example is the U.S. Navy’s elite principal special operations force, part of the Naval Special Warfare Command and U.S. Special Operations Command who are the SEALs, which is the acronym for Sea, Air and Land. The Navy SEAL is not to be confused with the seal living in the ocean, a semi-aquatic marine mammal consisting of more than 30 different species.
Has Ms. Lowe-Martin heard of SCUBA which is the acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus, or POTUS, acronym for President of the United States, or NASA, acronym for National Aeronautics and Space Administration?

Only the negative
In response to Barbara Morales’ letter March 22 letter, “Liking Donald Trump”: I also like Donald. Ms. Morales hit the nail on the head when she mentioned that the Review-Journal prints only the negative letters and writes only negative articles.
If I’m not mistaken, the first three words in the Constitution are “We the People.” Obviously he’s what “We the People” want since he’s won almost every state and leads in most polls despite the negative articles.
