Water Cooler: ‘Jersey Shore,’ memorial cross, De Niro

Here are a few things in news, entertainment and pop culture that caught our eye last week.

■ The New Jersey shore home of the cast of MTV's "Jersey Shore" is undamaged by Superstorm Sandy. The fumes of suntan goop wafting from overheated bodies apparently have a preservative effect.

■ A memorial cross stolen in 2010 from its Mojave Desert home is recovered more than 500 miles away, near San Francisco. Weirdest Flat Stanley variation ever.

■ Students at Arizona State's journalism school raise money for a "Men of Journalism" calendar. Oh, there's no reason to do this. Really. There isn't.

■ Actor Robert De Niro is part of a group that will open a hotel at Caesars Palace. Customer service will be revolutionized with desk clerks who greet guests with: "You talkin' to me?"
