Lainie Kazan performing in benefit show

During her long absence from Las Vegas, Lainie Kazan evolved from sex symbol to movie mother.

You know her now from character roles in the likes of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "Desperate Housewives." But Kazan jumped from "Funny Girl" on Broadway to regular showroom work at the Sahara in the early 1970s.

"I had my poster up there on the side of the building, a very famous picture of me in a wet shirt," she recalled a few years ago. "I did that whole bit."

Now she's doing her bit to help Aid for AIDS of Nevada with "An Evening of Cabaret" benefit at 8 p.m. Wednesday in The Lounge at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door, $75 VIP. Call 382-2326.
