Judge: Murder defendant Vazquez won’t get new trial

A juror who wrote sexually explicit letters to a murder defendant and then visited him at the county jail didn't commit jury misconduct, a judge said today.

District Judge Valerie Adair said defendant Ricky Vazquez won't get a new trial because juror Marnie Ramirez didn't commit misconduct when she contacted Vazquez.

Vazquez was convicted of second-degree murder and Ramirez was a juror in his case.

Ramirez testified briefly today, telling the judge that she wrote to Vazquez only after she and the other jurors delivered a verdict in the case.
