IN BRIEF

SLAYING SUSPECT

Fugitive worked at carnival before arrest

A man wanted by authorities in San Bernardino County, Calif., evaded investigators for about a month and a half by working for a traveling carnival now set up at Cashman Field, authorities said.

John Loza was caught Thursday by authorities in Nevada.

The 58-year-old, who is alleged to be a member of the Vagos outlaw motorcycle club, is accused in the March killing of 54-year-old John Rintalan, according to the U.S. Marshal's office.

Loza and his wife, Jeanne Loza, 47, were living in Rintalan's guest house for several months before the slaying, authorities said. Rintalan was reported missing March 13, and his decomposed body was found on the side of a road three weeks later.

Authorities had been hunting for the married couple since then and on April 17 caught up with Jeanne Loza in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Her husband eluded authorities, however.

California law enforcement agents learned this week that Loza was traveling with the carnival, and Loza was caught at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Bonanza Road.

He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and is awaiting extradition to California.
