Las Vegas police were searching for a suspect in the death of a driver found shot after crashing on the 215 Beltway Thursday. The suspect, 27-year-old Joseph Lucero, had argued with the driver earlier that night at Lucero’s apartment on the 7200 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South, near the 215, police said.

Man pleads guilty to pimping charges

A 31-year-old man pleaded guilty this week to pimping charges on the second day of jury selection. Christopher Thomas on Tuesday said he was guilty of one felony count each of pandering, coercion and living from the earnings of a prostitute. As part of a deal, prosecutors dropped one count of sex trafficking and living from the earnings of a prostitute.

Prison inmate dies after fight with another inmate

A Nevada prison inmate died Thursday after nearly three weeks in the hospital. Daniel Ruiz, 36, was taken to Valley Hospital after a fight with another inmate on Feb. 28. An investigation will be conducted to determine if criminal charges will be filed, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Las Vegas police looking for gunman in southwest store robbery

Las Vegas police were searching for a gunman who robbed a convenience store last week. The man went into the store near Durango Drive and Flamingo Road just after midgnight March 7, police said. He pulled a gun out of his sweater pocket and ran away after getting the money from the cashier, police said.

Man who took sleeping pills before driving gets prison in pedestrian death

A 34-year-old man was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 10 years in prison for killing a woman while driving intoxicated on sleeping pills. Jason Manuma was sentenced Tuesday for the February 2013 crash near Valley View Boulevard and Sahara Avenue that killed 52-year-old Brenda Kay Smiley.

Man killed in apartment fire identified

The man who died in an apartment fire Wednesday morning in southern Las Vegas has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office. Thomas Edward Sinclair, 63, died in his home at 5355 Edmond St., near Hacienda Avenue and Decatur Boulevard. Firefighters found his body after the fire was put out about 3:30 a.m.

Elizabeth LaMacchia, who was known as Elizabeth Halverson when she was ousted from a Clark County judgeship in 2008, has died in Las Vegas at age 56.

Courthouse protesters demonstrate against transgender-phobia

About a dozen people demonstrated against transgender-phobia outside the Regional Justice Center in downtown Las Vegas Friday. Jane Heenan, co-director of Gender Justice Nevada, said a coalition of gay-lesbian-transgender activists were showing support for Monica Jones, an Arizona State University student arrested in Phoenix for “manifesting prostitution.”
