Parents on trial in death of 4-year-old left in SUV

Prosecutors showed jurors a photo of 4-year-old Jason Rimer during Wednesday’s opening statements in the trial of his parents, Stanley and Colleen Rimer, who are accused of second-degree murder and child abuse and neglect for leaving their disabled son in a Ford Excursion. Prosecutors argued the parents exhibited a pattern of neglect toward their eight children that was bound to lead to tragedy.

Jury blames Wackenhut, clears Walmart in death

A jury on Wednesday found Wackenhut provided inadequate security at a Walmart parking lot on June 2, 2004, the night retired Air Force Maj. Michael Born was mortally wounded while changing his car’s headlight. Jurors said the security firm must pay more than $1 million in the wrongful death case in which the jury was convinced Wackenhut’s security was woefully inadequate. The same jury held the store was not liable for Born’s death.

Puffinburger case kidnapping charges dropped
