Swimmers prepare Saturday for the start of the inaugural “Slam the Dam” open water swim race at Sunset View Cove at Lake Mead. The Swim Las Vegas U.S. Masters Swim Team hosted the event, with race distances ranging from 1.2 miles to about six miles. The 8K races ended at Boulder Beach, where the shorter distances were held. About 200 swimmers participated in the events.

Voter Registration Winding Down

Jay Jackson, right, and Luis Morice, both of Las Vegas, inquire about registering to vote Saturday at the Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas. Saturday was the last day to register for the Nov. 2 general election without appearing in person at the Clark County Elections Department. Taking last-minute registrations at the mall were department employee Walter Abrego and volunteers Deborah May, left, and Helene Amos. The deadline for registering at the elections department is Oct. 16, which is the first day of early voting.
