Arkansas casino proposal rejected by state’s attorney general

The Arkansas attorney general killed a proposal that would have allowed casinos to be operated in six of the state’s counties.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said he found ambiguities in the text of the proposed constitutional amendment and rejected the idea.

The proposal would have allowed table games at casinos in four counties and table games to be added to racetracks in two counties where the facilities already operate slot machines.

Supporters of the casinos still have time to put the idea in front of Arkansas voters. Backers must submit valid signatures of at least 77,133 registered Arkansas voters to the secretary of state’s office by July 6.
