Longtime Boyd Gaming Corp. executive Bob Boughner will retire this summer after 40 years with the Las Vegas-based regional gaming company.

Boyd Gaming announced Tuesday that Boughner, currently the casino operator's executive vice president and chief business development officer, will remain on the board following his retirement.

Following an 11-year tenure as chief operating officer, Boughner served as CEO of the Borgata in Atlantic City, leading the design, development and operations of the gaming market's leading resort since its 2003 opening.

As company COO, he guided Boyd Gaming when the company opened or acquired eight properties across the United States.

Boughner is considered one of the closest advisors to Boyd Gaming founder Bill Boyd.

The company said details on Boughner's replacement will be made later this year.
