Ex-Tropicana Las Vegas exec takes post at Cosmopolitan

Thomas McCartney, who resigned as president and chief operating officer of the Tropicana Las Vegas in October, has been hired as The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas' COO, the company said in a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

McCartney, 59, will oversee the hotel's operations, food and beverage and gaming. He will report to CEO John Unwin, the company said.

Under the terms of the three-year employment contract, McCartney will start Jan. 1 and receive an annual base salary of $600,000. He will also be eligible for annual performance cash incentive equivalent to 50 percent of his base salary.

His hiring is subject to approval by Nevada gaming regulators. Before taking his position with the Tropicana Las Vegas, McCartney served as president and CEO of Planet Hollywood Resort from January to December 2009.

Nevada Property 1 LLC, which owns The Cosmopolitan, also announced Jeffrey Burge, the company's chief financial officer and a member of its board, would resign effective Feb. 10. In a regulatory filing, the company said it is searching for Burge's replacement.
