Imperial Palace fading into sunset of Strip redevelopment

The Imperial Palace officially disappears on Friday.

That's when the Strip resort will officially be operating as the Quad, Caesars Entertainment Corp. announced Wednesday.

Renovations of the 2,543-room hotel-casino began recently, and the changes are expected to be completed by late 2013.

Interior and exterior renovations to the property already are underway, including the exterior facade, lobby and front desk area, casino and retail and restaurant levels. A new porte cochere opens next week.

Caesars Entertainment announced the rebranding plans in early September. The property's renovation is part of the $550 million Linq development, which is under construction between The Quad and Flamingo.

The Linq is a 300,000-square-foot outdoor retail, dining and entertainment district, anchored by the 550-foot High Roller observation wheel.

The project is expected to open late next year.
