Las Vegas Sands said to be rethinking Massachussetts casino market

Las Vegas Sands Corp. may be reconsidering its stance on the Massachusetts casino market.

The Boston Herald reported Wednesday the casino operator might want to bid on the single license for Boston, which is also being sought by rivals Wynn Resorts Ltd. and Caesars Entertainment Corp.

Massachusetts approved casino expansion in October and the state will license three full-scale casino-resorts and slot machine parlor.

"The company remains interested in developing an integrated resort property in Massachusetts, but has not made any final determinations," Las Vegas Sands spokesman Ron Reese told the newspaper.

Wynn is linked with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft in Foxborough while Caesars is partners with the Suffolk Downs racetrack.

Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson is a native of the Boston suburb of Dorchester.

"I think Sheldon Adelson will get involved once the other guys have laid their cards on the table," casino expert Richard McGowan of Boston College told the Herald. "He's the elephant in the room. He's been much more successful than (Steve) Wynn."
