MGM Resorts selects president for Park Holdings

MGM Resorts International on Thursday selected Don Thrasher as president of Park Holdings, the entity that oversees development of The Park, now under development between the Monte Carlo and New York-New York hotels.

Thrasher was most recently president of Circus Circus Las Vegas. He will oversee development of the 8-acre retail, dining and entertainment district and its integration with nearby hotel-casinos and MGM’s $350 million arena, which is under construction behind New York-New York.

The Park includes landscaped areas, casual eateries, bars, restaurants and retail attractions. The outdoor district is designed to draw pedestrians from the Strip into the various offerings.

The Park and the renovations to Monte Carlo and New York-New York will cost more than $100 million. A few components of The Park will open this year and throughout 2015, leading up to the opening of the arena in 2016.

Thrasher and Park Holdings will provide oversight of the continued revitalization of MGM’s outdoor areas on the Strip.

MGM Resorts COO Corey Sanders said Thrasher and Park Holdings “will be on the leading edge” as the company invests in additional nongaming experiences on the Strip.

Meanwhile, MGM Resorts tapped Eric Fitzgerald as general manager of Circus Circus Las Vegas and Ann Hoff as general manager of Excalibur.
