JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi’s state-licensed casinos won $2.39 billion from players in 2010 — a nearly 3 percent drop from what gamblers lost in 2009.
An anonymous gambler hit the Megabucks jackpot Friday at CityCenter’s Aria, winning almost $12.8 million. The winner had played $6 in a Megabucks slot machine at Aria when the jackpot hit.
BOSTON — Las Vegas-based companies are among many who are doling out millions trying to sway the minds of lawmakers on Beacon Hill, a flood of spending that continued even after a casino deal between Gov. Deval Patrick and House Speaker Robert DeLeo collapsed last summer.
Casino player cards represent a growing number of fraud cases in Las Vegas, as hackers target the popular programs and casinos’ customer databasesto gain access to customers’ personal information or steal points. The problem has become serious enough that the Nevada Gaming Control Board sent a letter in December reminding casino companies of their obligations to protect customer information and periodically review their database security.
Poker player Annie Duke will the commissioner of a new professional poker league that begins play later this year in Las Vegas. The brainchild of Duke and former World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack is geared toward the big names on the professional poker circuit.
