ALBANY, N.Y. — A development team is ending its bid to build a casino near Albany to focus on an alternative casino proposal in Orange County.
Cordish Cos. and Penn National Gaming announced Wednesday that they will request a refund of the $1 million application fee paid to state regulators for the Rensselaer County proposal.
Penn National owns and operates the M Resort in Henderson.
The two companies continue to work on their Orange County proposal, which they say provides the “best opportunity” to win a casino license.
The number of casino proposals now stands at 19. Up to four casinos are authorized for three regions: the Albany-Saratoga area, the Southern Tier-Finger Lakes region and the Catskills and mid-Hudson River Valley, an area that includes Orange County.
Applicants have until June 30 to submit final proposals.
