Sale of Railroad Pass to Henderson businessman closes

The sale of the Railroad Pass to a Henderson businessman closed Wednesday.

MGM Resorts International announced last year it was selling the small casino to Joe DeSimone Jr. for an undisclosed price. The Railroad Pass opened in 1931 and known as the oldest active casino in Nevada. MGM acquired the property in connection with its $7.9 billion acquisition of the Mandalay Resort Group in 2005.

Marcus Gaming LLC, which is headed by Marcus Suan, will operate the property until DeSimone is licensed by state gaming regulators. The Nevada Gaming Commission approved Marcus Gaming on March 26.

MGM Resorts sold the small casino because it didn’t fit into the company’s overall plans.

“MGM Resorts will continue to focus on our growth efforts in both the United States and internationally,” said chief financial officer Dan D’Arrigo.
